Welcome to Remote Learning
Hi 4th Grade Families!
We miss all of you so much and hope you have been spending quality time with your family. We understand how chaotic and uncertain this time is, but please know we are here to support your child’s growth, learning and happiness to the best of our abilities.
We have spent time planning to support you and your family’s needs, not overwhelm your child, we want them to continue making progress toward our first grade standards. We know many of you are still working, even from home, and need time to yourself. Our hope is to equip kids with supports (familiar activities, guided lessons and video learning) to independently engage in work time. Each week students will have assignments to complete and submit.
Here is some of the information that will help you get started with remote learning:
Email: Please check your email daily for remote learning updates and for zoom links for office hours.
4th Grade Website: Please check this website weekly for remote learning updates. We will post weekly assignments every Monday morning. All assignments will be in the Showbie and will be unlocked at 7 am every Monday.
Learning Platform: We will post assignments on Showbie, and some assignments may direct you to Google Classroom or other sites.
Apps: We will mainly use Showbie, Google Classroom, Spelling City and Zoom but we will also use Flipgrid (check Self Service). We may use more in the future.
Attendance: We will post a week's worth of work at a time. Assignments will be posted and unlocked every Monday for the week. Please work on the activities throughout the week (about 75 minutes per day) Attendance will be taken at the end of the week on Friday, and it will be based on assignment completion and submission. Learning remotely is intended to be independent and so we are not expecting all kids to be learning at the same time and at the same pace throughout the week. The goal is for students to engage in the learning that fits your families schedule.
Grades: Grades or feedback will be posted within Showbie on assignments. Students will either be given feedback or a Numerical Score (1-4) on Standards Based Grading.
Office Hours: These are the times we are available to do a zoom call and/or respond to email. We will also check and respond to work in Showbie throughout the day.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 9:00 - 10:00 AM and 2:30 - 3:30 PM
Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Wednesday: Lunch Bunch from 12:00 - 12:30
You can access zoom through the app (when you log in for the first time accept everything) or through chrome. For sound to work you will need to click on the button “internet audio” when you log in. You can also access zoom by clicking on the links below.
Extensions: This is a link to extension activities should you and your child want to try some other fun learning!
Students: Make sure you do the following.
Check notifications from Showbie daily.
Be polite on Zoom discussions or other discussions that may happen in other apps.
Establish a routine (as best as possible). For example:
Have students work for an hour each morning, take a lunch and exercise break, then work for an hour in the afternoon
Do what works best for your family!
Establish a work space- a place with few distractions and all learning tools needed.
This is all new to us, and we may change procedures as needed. Please be flexible! We have lots of confidence because your students work with most of this stuff everyday already. We wish all of us the best of luck in this journey!
