I truly love working with all the students here at Cherry Drive. It shows because I am starting my 23rd year teaching, and all the years have been here at Cherry Drive. I have taught 4th and 5th grade. I really enjoy working with children at these ages, because I get the opportunity to watch and help them grow as individuals academically and socially. I believe it is my responsibility to know where my students are academically for strengths and areas of growth through observations, using rubrics for standards base grading, district testing, and their daily classroom involvement. In addition, I feel students and myself included should be held to high standards, and we all should strive to reach these high expectations. Everyone is capable of making growth in his or her learning.
I am a Colorado native, and graduated from Pomona High School in Arvada. However, I decided to travel to California to earn my BA and teaching certificate at California State University of Fresno. I have also earned my Masters degree from University of Northern Colorado in counseling.
I have a wonderful family. My husband, Terry, is also a teacher. He teaches 8th grade business computer classes. I am lucky to be the mother of twins. They are in high school now, but they did attend Cherry Drive during their elementary school years. They are currently in Taekwondo, and have earned their black belt. I am also a proud owner of two dogs. Tank, a golden retriever, loves to steal anybody’s shoes when they are not looking. Baylee, a Chesapeake Bay retriever, is addicted to any ball that rolls. I love spending time with my family, playing games, reading, and taking my dogs on long walks.
