Greetings and welcome to a new school year! I began working at Cherry Drive at the beginning of the 2003-04 school year. I began my teaching career many years ago in Indiana where I taught kiddos with emotional disabilities for seven years. I also traveled for a year in the state of Iowa, working in schools to support teachers and their students who had behavioral and emotional disabilities. I took several years off from formal teaching to start my family and raise my four daughters.
This will mark my 16th year teaching at Cherry Drive. I taught for eight years at Cherry Drive in the capacity of Learning Specialist, working with teachers and their students with disabilites who needed academic and behavioral support. I then became the teacher in the Affective Needs Program at Cherry Drive in the 2011-12 school year. Together, my team and I supported students with emotional and behavioral needs in my self-contained classroom and throughout the building. For the 2018-19 school year, I will be serving students in the capacity of half time learning specialist, and am thrilled to be doing so. I will spend the other half of my school day at a nearby elementary school, as one of their learning specialists as well. I look forward to supporting parents and teachers with students who have academic and behavioral challneges!
In my free time, I love hiking, camping, watching movies, drinking lots of coffee (at Starbucks preferably!), cooking, baking and most of all, hanging out with my husband and my four beautiful daughters and two adorable grandsons.
